Launching this September, Apple’s latest iPhone is set to make a difference to the amazingly popular iPhone lineup. Although the company has not officially released a launch date yet, the anticipation for the new phone is building rapidly. The new iPhone is set to come with a 120Hz LTPO display on both the Pro models, which is a first and much-needed refresh rate upgrade for the iPhone lineup. The new iPhone 13 also comes with a new camera setup and an improved battery life. Changes to the camera also include an enhanced portrait video mode that’s supposed to make videography clearer and much smoother on the flagship device.
Design changes
Apple Insider has gotten hold of some credible dummy copies of the iPhone 13 and they show drastic design changes for the new phone. The changes include shifting the speaker towards the top of the device, a diagonal camera arrangement for the regular iPhone 13 and a larger camera module for the iPhone 13 Pro. Changes are also being made to the location of the SIM trays and the power buttons, where they are to be shifted lower. Surprisingly, the new iPhones are on their way to getting smaller notches, with some reports suggesting that the notch could get up to 25% smaller compared to the iPhone 12.
Reports also say that the flagship phone this year, the iPhone 13 Pro Max could be slightly thicker than its 2020 counterpart.
Touch ID
Leaks and other reports also suggest that the iPhone 13 could get an under-display fingerprint scanner or Touch ID. More recent reports on the matter, however, say that Apple won’t bring this feature to the iPhone lineup until 2022. Users have commented that because mask-wearing has become a norm at this point, a secondary way of unlocking the phone while being secure would be very welcome.
Colours
The freshest iPhone launching this month could come with 4 colour options for the Pro models. These are black, silver, rose gold and sunset gold. Reports have also pointed towards the iPhone 13 Pro getting a pink colour, with matte black and orange.
Displays
Apple has reportedly kept the screen sizes the same for their newest iPhones but have strived to bring other and more important changes to the displays themselves. A news report from ET News says that Apple will adopt a 120Hz refresh rate for their 6.1-inch phones. However, some sources say that only the iPhone Pro Max models would come with 120Hz displays and the others would be stuck with the regular 60Hz. However, with a higher refresh rate on the Pro models, gaming and video playback are bound to improve. Because Apple is shifting to an LTPO panel for their phones, it means that the iPhone 13 will have a much less power consumption coefficient. Reports from DigiTimes suggest that the phones will consume 15% to 20% less power. The iPhone 13 could also come with an always-on-display, which would put their screen features at par with the highest-grade Android smartphones on the market right now.
Conclusion
Here are some of the other spec changes that the new iPhone 13 could have:
- 1. On the storage front, the iPhone could range from 64GB to 512GB, although some reports also claim up to 1TB of storage
- 2. The phones could also get a huge boost in terms of wireless connectivity with reports that point to the usage of Qualcomm’s X60 5G modem
- 3. The iPhone 13 could also become the first phone in the world to support satellite communications which would enable users to make calls or send messages without 4G or 5G cellular connections
- 4. The iPhone 13 could also offer reverse wireless charging, which would allow it to emergency charge Apple accessories like AirPods Pro and the Apple Watch
