Chrome VS Safari: Which Browser is Best?

chrome-vs-safari-which-browser-is-best

Introduction-

Since time immemorial, there has been an undeclared competition between every aspect of iOS and Android. The competition is not just between the two operating systems but also each and every feature of each of the said systems. In our other blogs, we have compared phones with both the systems as well as who wins the privacy war. But it does not simply end there since both the systems are also pit against each other based on their search engines. Which is a better search engine: Google Chrome or Mac Safari? Let us see for ourselves.

We have kept the comparison fairly technical since both the search engines are used by millions of users for a wide number of purposes. Therefore it will not be possible to compare it based on user preference or even popularity.

  • User interface- Both the browsers were designed for their respective operating systems. Safari on MacBook was designed to work efficiently with MacOS and Google Chrome was created to work well with the Google operating system. From the point of the user interface, Apple mac Safari is good for people who want a subtle browser that allows them more privacy and minimalism.

Google Chrome browser, on the other hand, is better suited for multi-taskers as it allows switching between two profiles such as work and home uses. It also works well with a lot of tabs open at the same time with any security warnings.

Hence from the point of view of user interface, it is pretty much a draw since both have a lot to offer in their respective ways.

  • Features- Both have a variety of features to offer which makes it really difficult to choose one final winner. But before we go to that extent, let us look at their impressive features. Apple mac Safari offers really sophisticated features like reading mode and seamless integration on Apple devices. With its exclusive features, users can filter out or completely ignore the ads for the time being. Chrome windows on the other hand are more universal. It works effortlessly with all other google apps, chrome casting is very easy and it is also helpful when one Chrome can be used on many devices regardless of their maker.

Hence Chrome gets a slight edge over Safari due to more features for its users.

  • Performance- When we use the work performance, we refer to the speed or efficiency of both the search engines. iOS is pretty unbeatable when it comes to speed. Safari on Mac hardly ever hangs or has a processing issue. Chrome on the other hand has a major RAM problem. Using multiple tabs also means consuming more RAM, as a result, Chrome runs slowly. Chrome has a task manager to manage the processes consuming unnecessary RAM.

Hence, in the battle for speed Safari is a clear winner due to the better integration with iOS as well as less RAM usage. It is possible to manage Chrome’s problem with other apps or the task manager but it cannot stand alone.

  • Security- The perspective of security can be looked at in two ways. First is how both browsers protect the security of their users from external malware. The second way is to analyze how much information the browsers access from their users.

When it comes to protecting privacy, Apple has an edge over Google because Apple follows a ‘do whatever it takes an approach to protect its security. This makes Safari better when it comes to protecting security. Google on the other hand has a ‘good enough’ approach that makes Google Chrome more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. In a second way, Google makes a lot of its money from advertisements. Therefore Google is inclined towards accessing more information than Apple Safari Mac. Since Apple does not work for ad money and extracts most of its profit from device sales, Apple will not need a lot of user information.

Safari, therefore, takes it away from a security perspective due to its less invasive approach.

  • Peripherals- Peripherals are basically extensions that are possible with both browsers. Now based on the security point, it might already be clear that Google will allow or work effectively with more extensions than MacBook Safari. Google allows many extensions with access to only limited information from the main browser and makes life easy for its user.

Safari, like its maker, always follows the exclusive approach and limits itself to a limited number of extensions. Therefore extensions that are not licensed or processed to a specific scale will not work with MacBook Safari. There will automatically be a safety warning and the extension will not work.

What’s the Final Word?

Based on a detailed analysis of both the browsers based on the above-mentioned perspectives, the author is of the opinion that Google Chrome wins the browser war with just a slight edge over MacBook Safari. Safari has an impeccable user interface, speed, and security features but Google is not so far behind and clearly takes away the game by way of features and extensions. Users nowadays conduct a varied number of activities through their browsers. Hence Safari on MacBook can sometimes get complicated for those reasons. Safari still is a seamless browser that allows fast and capable browsing. However, Google Chrome wins by a small leap.
